Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer's or Dementia? We're Here to Help.

Every family's situation is different, and many caregivers have similar questions as they begin exploring ways to make everyday routines safer and more manageable.

If you don't see your question below, we'd be happy to talk with you. Schedule a complimentary consultation and we'll help you think through your specific situation.

About Memory Care & Everyday Living

How do I know if it's time to start looking for additional support?

Many families begin looking for solutions long before a major event occurs.

You may notice that meals take longer, your loved one needs more guidance during everyday routines, or you find yourself helping more often than you used to.

These small changes don't necessarily mean it's time for full-time care. They often mean it's a good time to explore simple ways to make everyday routines feel easier and more comfortable.

My loved one can still walk. Would they benefit from a different seating solution?

Possibly.

Many caregiving challenges begin during transitions rather than walking itself.

Approaching a chair, turning, sitting down, standing back up, and repositioning at the table often require more caregiver involvement than families expect.

Our seating solutions are designed to support those everyday transitions.

Is this only for people with Alzheimer's?

No.

Our seating solutions may also benefit families caring for someone living with other forms of dementia, memory loss, cognitive decline, or changing mobility related to aging.

The goal is to support everyday routines while helping preserve comfort, participation, and dignity.

We aren't ready for memory care. Is this still appropriate?

Absolutely.

Many of the families we work with are trying to help a loved one remain safely at home for as long as possible.

Small adjustments made early may help make daily routines easier before challenges become more significant.

About Mealtimes

Why do you focus so much on mealtimes?

Meals are about much more than eating.

They provide routine, conversation, participation, familiarity, and connection.

For many families living with Alzheimer's or dementia, preserving these everyday moments becomes just as important as preserving physical independence.

Why does sitting down become more difficult?

Many people assume the challenge is walking.

In reality, approaching a chair, turning, backing up, positioning, and sitting often become more difficult first.

These transitions may require additional caregiver guidance, balance, and coordination.

Our seating approach is designed around making these moments feel easier.

My loved one usually eats in a recliner now. Is that common?

Yes.

Many families gradually change routines because they feel easier.

Sometimes those changes are helpful.

Other times, they quietly reduce participation in family meals and everyday interaction.

Every family is different, and we'll help you think through what makes the most sense for your situation.

About Memory Care Chairs

What makes Chair CADDIE different from a traditional chair?

Traditional chairs assume someone can independently approach, position themselves, sit, and stand.

Chair CADDIE helps bring the chair to the person instead of requiring the person to maneuver around the chair.

This can help reduce awkward repositioning while making caregiver assistance feel more natural.

What are the different Chair Classes?

We organize seating by mobility and caregiving needs rather than simply by furniture style.

Class A

Traditional seating for people who remain fully independent.

Class B

Guided seating with swivel and positioning support.

Class C

Move-to-person seating designed for greater caregiver involvement.

Class D

Independent support for people who want to continue aging in place safely.

We'll help determine which approach best fits your family's needs.

Can Chair CADDIE work with an existing chair?

In many cases, yes.

Some Chair CADDIE solutions are designed to retrofit existing chairs, while others include complete seating systems.

During your consultation, we'll help determine which option is the best fit.

Does it look like medical equipment?

No.

One of our goals is helping families preserve the warmth and comfort of home.

Our seating solutions are designed to blend into residential environments rather than making your dining room feel clinical or institutional.

Safety & Caregiving

Will this prevent falls?

No product can guarantee that someone won't fall.

However, thoughtful seating, improved positioning, and reducing awkward transitions may help support safer everyday routines.

Our focus is helping families make caregiving more manageable while supporting comfort, confidence, and participation.

Will this help me lift less?

Many caregivers tell us they spend less time pulling, pushing, repositioning, or maneuvering chairs after changing their seating setup.

Every situation is different, but our goal is to reduce unnecessary physical effort whenever possible.

Does this replace a walker or wheelchair?

No.

Chair CADDIE is designed to complement—not replace—other mobility aids.

Many families use it alongside walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, or other equipment as part of their daily routine.
